To finish up the school year, the Maritime Studies Club at Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School, advised by Mr. Garcia and Mr. Travis, have taken to the water. Students spent the day fishing at Robert Moses pier. Throughout the day, the club members tested their skill and strength, battling striped bass and giant bluefish. Located on Long Island’s south shore, Copiague is fortunate to be near to some of the best fishing spots in the state. The Maritime Studies Club gives students the opportunity to learn about their community’s rich maritime culture and experience it firsthand. The club is always accepting new members during the school year and will also be running a summer camp in July.
