Second graders at East Islip’s Timber Point Elementary School recently worked in collaborative groups during library class to run a Dash robot. They had to problem-solve and use critical thinking skills to make Dash move through obstacles. The students also had a chance to change the appearance of their Dash using a different app on the library iPads.
Meanwhile, Timber Point’s first graders began coding in library using the Code Studio App on their tablets. They learned how to drag and drop block coding, how to sequence code and what HTML code looks like.
Finally, kindergartners in library class used Ozobots to sequence the Lucille Colandro story “There Was an Old Mermaid That Swallowed a Shark.” The students used problem-solving techniques to make their lines “just right” and “no mountains, only hills” so their Ozobot could retell the story from start to finish.
