Wyandanch Union Free School District recently proudly unveiled their new baseball field on the grounds of Wyandanch Memorial High School and Milton L. Olive Middle School with a grand opening celebration.
With Superintendent of Schools Dr. Gina Talbert, Board of Education President, Mr. Jarod Morris, district administrators, staff, scholars and community members present, the beautiful new baseball field was christened by the Wyandanch Memorial High School boys baseball team in a scrimmage game against Central Islip.
Prior to the start of the game, Dr. Talbert welcomed everyone saying how excited she was to show the new field at the beginning of the district’s homecoming weekend.
“We are elated to see the manifestation of a dream that has been birthed in the hearts of many. And therefore, after the hard work of so many workers, our scholars now have a beautiful field to not just play games, but to win games. To have that champion mentality and to play as the elite, skilled athletes that they are.”
Board of Education President, Mr. Jarod Morris said, “This is a special day. As I stand here recalling my days as a student-athlete and my love for baseball, I see a field that our athletes will be proud to play on and visiting teams will be excited to play on. It is the hope of the district and the board of education that we continue to support our athletes and give our children the best for them to excel on the field and in the classroom.”
Dr. Talbert, Mr. Morris, administrators and the baseball team had a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the pitcher’s mound to officially open the field to the district’s athletes.
Wyandanch Memorial High School Assistant Principal Ms. Deven Kane sang the national anthem and Dr. Talbert threw out the ceremonial first pitch starting the first baseball game on the new field.
Those attending the grand opening celebration were also treated to traditional baseball refreshments, including soft pretzels, Cracker Jacks, hot dogs and hamburgers.
For the spring 2023 baseball season, the new Wyandanch Memorial High School baseball field will feature a state-of-the-art score board, wind screens, and pitching and batting practice areas.
