Sachem Marching Band Wins State Championship

The Sachem Marching Band took home the title of New York State champions in the Large School 3 Division at the New York State Field Band Conference. The band, made up of 62 students from Sachem High School East, Sachem High School North, Sagamore Middle School, Samoset Middle School and Seneca Middle School, traveled to Syracuse, New York, to compete in the championship on Oct. 30.

Drum major Jay Greengold carried the Governor’s Cup off the bus as the band arrived back in Sachem, escorted by the Farmingville Fire Department.

“From the second I saw this band I knew we were going to do great things,” Jay Greengold, senior drum major, said. “I’m so happy for each and every one in this band and I can’t wait for the future.”

Family, friends and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Christopher Pellettieri welcomed the student-musicians back as they returned from the competition in Syracuse.

The band was welcomed home with an escort from the Farmingville Fire Department on Nov. 1. Families, friends and school administrators cheered the student-musicians on as they arrived back at High School East with the coveted Governor’s Cup.
