A new “Safe and Sound” storm drain mural was painted this week at Nesaquake Middle School which educated students on keeping the environment clean as well as teach them how the water enters the Long Island Sound.

The project is the sixth in Smithtown schools and has become an annual tradition created by Tim Needles, technology integration specialist and art teacher, and Kimberly Williams, Smithtown HS West science teacher, along with local artist Susan Buroker.

This mural was designed and painted in partnership with Nesaquake Middle School teacher Julianne DeSilva and students from the Environmental Science Club. Nicole Carone, another Smithtown HS West science teacher, also assisted.
