The Environmental Club at Robert Moses Middle School in the North Babylon School District is one of the most active clubs at the school. When given the opportunity to do a community service project, they jumped at the chance. After discussions about what project to do, the club, under the direction of adviser Mr. Brodmerkel, decided on a community cleanup that went from the middle school to Phelps Lane Park. Pollution is a problem because it affects both the plant and animal life that rely on the land and soil. The students worked to clean up the community and park, which is home to many different species. In addition, the cleanup beautifies the area for the many people in the community who utilize it for recreation.
