Kramer Lane Rallies For Olympian Charlie McAvoy

Milan wasn’t the only place buzzing with Olympic spirit on Feb. 6. Kramer Lane Elementary School in Bethpage hosted a pep rally celebrating hometown Olympian Charlie McAvoy, son of second-grade teacher Jennifer McAvoy. Charlie is representing the United States on the men’s hockey team and is the only Long Island athlete competing in the Winter Olympics.

Students packed the multipurpose room dressed in red, white, and blue, waving flags, pom-poms, and signs. The event opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and the national anthem, performed by four Kramer Lane students who recently participated in NYSSMA All-County.

Students learned about the Winter Olympics and Charlie’s hockey journey, from his early days in Long Beach to his professional career with the Boston Bruins, highlighted by a video montage that drew loud cheers. The Bethpage High School cheer team led spirited chants, followed by a student Q&A with Ms. McAvoy.

The rally concluded with a special video message from Charlie encouraging students to follow their dreams. It was a proud, patriotic afternoon as Bethpage rallied behind Charlie and Team USA.
