The James Wilson Young Middle School/Bayport-Blue Point Division B (grade 6-9) team recently competed in the New York State Eastern Long Island Division B Regional competition at R.C. Murphy Middle School. Twenty-one students competed in 19 events and garnered 14 medals, including a first-place finish in anatomy and physiology by Adil S. and Jefferson S.
The team finished fifth-place overall, earning a spot at the NYS Science Olympiad Division B competition. Coach and adviser Ms. Peterson said this is only the second time the Division B team has qualified for state competition, to take place in East Syracuse on April 14-15. Sixteen Bayport-Blue Point students will compete with top teams in the state.
