Creativity was on the menu at a fantastic STEAM event at Washington Drive Primary School in the Harborfields Central School District, held on March 30 in the school’s cafetorium. During classes beforehand, teachers and students read the Ashley Spires book “The Most Magnificent Thing,” learning about the importance of perseverance when trying new and hard things, modeled after the main character in the book. Students then brainstormed ideas, designed blueprints and ultimately created models of their own “magnificent thing” of their choice.

To build their vision, they collected and used recycled materials – including cardboard boxes and tubes, egg and milk cartons, plastic and foam containers, stickers, tape and glue – to bring their magnificent thing to life. Visiting parents and family members assisted the students in cutting, gluing and constructing their projects.
