Donna Beal’s class at East Islip’s Timber Point Elementary School has been celebrating Black History Month throughout February. The students have been listening to stories, singing songs and creating art projects that reflect the golden rule of treating others the way they would like to be treated, emphasizing love in action like the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

During a recent lesson on equity and fairness, students generated words that conveyed this message and created beautiful 3-D portraits of Dr. King.
