Deer Park High School’s College and Career Center and Black Student Union recently organized a field trip to Brentwood High School for the HBCU Homecoming Classic. An HBCU is also known as a Historically Black College or University.
The event, open to seniors, juniors and sophomores, hosted a HBCU college fair for students to speak with HBCU school representatives, which also featured a discussion panel on financing college and a keynote speaker. At the HBCU Homecoming Classic, entertainment for attendees included a live DJ, step show, historically black fraternities and sororities, and color guard.
Four Deer Park students came home with special prizes: Nalasia Chavannes won a Google Home device, Jose Martine Dely won a Bluetooth keyboard and free technology class, Katia Papallier won a Fitbit and Anne-Lorie Thermitus won a gift card at the Sigma Gamma Rho sorority table.
