Connetquot River State Park Preserve, in Oakdale, offers the following interpretative programs during the spring of 2024. There will be a fee of $4.00 per adult, $4.00 per child, and children under 3 are free. An $8.00 parking fee must be paid during the fee collection season. Reservations are taken 2 weeks prior to the program. Family programs are geared for ages 6 and up. If you are unable to keep your reservation, please call or cancel so others may have the opportunity to attend. Please be prompt. Tiny Tots: “Nature Discoveries”
Explore the natural world around you. These programs will connect children and their parents with nature through short walks, animal visitors, and crafts. Children ages 3-5.

Lorax Earth Day: (Children’s Program)

Speak for the trees if you please! Come to this children’s program for some fun Earth Day activities based on Dr. Seuss’s characters. You might even meet the Lorax!

A docent will discuss the history of the tavern and the high society Club which shaped Connetquot River State Park Preserve into what it is today. Tours of the historic Nicoll Grist Mill are included and will be offered after your house tour. Recommended for children 8+. House tours can run up to 2 hours long. There will be a short talk outside before viewing the inside. Held on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month from 1:00-3:00pm.
Mystical Creatures: (Children’s Program)
Saturday April 27th 7:30 ~ 9:00pm
When the sun goes down, all of Connetquot’s mystical creatures come out to play. Woodland pixies, unicorns, and even bigfoot roam around the preserve for a night of fun. Come learn all about these mystical creatures on this unique night hike! We’ll be looking for traces of them with a fun scavenger hunt for all to enjoy. Bring a flashlight and your imagination! For ages 7 and up.
Northern Hikers Special (Adult Program)
Sunday April 28th 10:00am ~ 2:00pm
Wander through wetlands, pine barrens, and oak forests while observing wildlife and native plants. They will hike approximately 6 miles to the pristine, less traveled, northern section of the preserve. They will stop and have lunch along the way. Wear proper footwear and clothing! Bring lunch and water.

Bird and Breakfast: (Adult Program)

Enjoy a continental breakfast (courtesy of the Great South Bay Audubon Society) and a presentation introducing local and migratory birds seen in our area. Afterwards, take a walk through the preserve led by experienced birders from the Audubon Society. Binoculars and identification books will be available for loan.
Spring Manifestation Painting: (Adult Program)

Ever wondered what nature provides for artists? Learn how the colors and hues found in nature become the paint and designs on a canvas! All materials will be provided!
