Caumsett State Historic Park in Lloyd’s Neck, Huntington offers the following interpretative programs in the spring of 2024. Unless otherwise noted, all presentations are geared for the average adult. An adult must accompany children under 18 years of age. Admission is $4.00, payable in the park office. Because space is limited, we cannot accommodate groups or organizations. Reservations are required. To register, please call (631) 423 – 1770. If you would like to be added to their mailing list please visit https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/su/ZSwftws/mailinglist. If you are unable to keep your reservation, please call and cancel so others may have the opportunity to attend. Please be prompt. If others are waiting, your place may be given to them if you have not arrived when the program starts. Programs will take place outdoors rain or shine, so please dress appropriately. Introduction to Wilderness Survival (Adult Program)
Saturday April 13th 9:45am ~ 12:00pm
You can survive on your own at Caumsett. In this hands-on program geared for the average adult, they’ll teach you how to find food, start a fire and build a shelter. Approximately 1 mile. For reasons of safety, no children under 18 years of age will be permitted to attend. There will be some sitting on the grass. Possibility of long grass.
Nature on the Move (West): (Adult Program)
Sunday April 28th 9:45am ~ 12:00pm
They’ll maintain a slow to moderate pace for 4 miles while they observe and discuss the fields and woods in Caumsett.
Spring Seasonal Stroll: (Adult Program)
Saturday May 11th 9:45 ~ 11:45am
On this short stroll (approximately 1.5 miles), one of a series designed to observe seasonal changes, they’ll savor nature’s spring rebirth, highlighting bird nesting. Some hills and sitting on grass. Possibility of long grass.
Just a Hike (Eastern Section): (Adult Program)
Sunday May 26th 9:45am ~ 12:45pm
While questions are most welcome, there will be no formal nature discussion during this 6 mile, hilly, leisurely paced walk, thus affording walkers the opportunity to relax, socialize, and observe the park’s beauty. For reasons of safety, no children under 18 years of age are permitted to attend. Long grass possible.
History of Caumsett: (Adult Program)
Saturday June 8th 9:45 ~ 11:45am
On this hilly, moderately long walk (approx. 1.5 miles), they will study the park’s social, economic, architectural, and political history. (Some walking in long grass).
Map Hike: (Adult Program)
Sunday June 23rd 9:45am ~ 12:45pm
Participants will use a map of the park to navigate to specific destinations. They will cover approximately 5 miles at a leisurely pace. Some hills. Possibility of walking through long grass.
