Blue Point Elementary School students received a unique opportunity to read their favorite books to therapy dog Arlington (aka Arly), a gorgeous, calm and friendly golden retriever, as part of the Paws to Read program. Arlington and his handler, Mrs. L. McGinley, are members of the Pet Partners program and regularly visit schools to help benefit students’ reading experiences and overall well-being.

Research has shown that incorporating therapy animals into educational environments can have numerous positive effects on students and that interacting with animals has been found to reduce stress and anxiety, increase motivation and focus and improve social and emotional development.

“Spending some time with Arlington created a supportive and engaging environment for the students, fostering a love for reading and boosting their confidence,” teacher Mrs. Monahan said.
