Art League of Long Island Partners with Mid Island Y Jewish Community Center

The Art League of Long Island has embarked on a partnership with the Mid Island Y Jewish Community Center in Plainview providing an after-school visual arts enrichment program for children in grades K-3.  The ten-week program, led by Art League of Long Island instructor Christina Mihalatos, takes place at the Mid Island Y JCC location in Plainview from 4:15pm to 5:15pm on Mondays beginning November 1, 2021.

This ten-week art course is filled with projects and activities that will boost kids’ critical thinking habits, improve their collaborative participation, grow their creativity, and develop their communication skills through art-making, all while having fun.  Children will explore their own creativity through art projects including acrylic painting, watercolor, pastels, paper crafts, drawing, clay, and more.

About the instructor:  Christina Mihalatos has blended her artistic skills with her twenty years of fashion business experience in major designer brands, bringing about a perfect marriage of her two passions.  Christina’s evolution into art education allowed her to introduce another element to this union and extend the range of her talent even further. Her use of authentic and eclectic skills allows Christina to challenge the boundaries of teaching – utilizing experience to tell stories, which explore the depths of her talent and expertise.  Christina holds a BFA in Fashion/Apparel Design from the Parson’s School of Design and currently completing her MA in Art Education at Adelphi University.
