Curran Announces 9th Annual Nassau Barkfest

Four-legged superheroes, pirates, hot dogs and more will soon be on display in Eisenhower Park for the 9th annual Nassau Barkfest. County Executive Laura Curran announced today that the County will once again host Long Island’s largest pet Halloween costume contest and parade on October 30th, 2021 from 1:00p.m. – 4:00p.m. at Eisenhower Park’s Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre. The highly anticipated event will be held in person this year following last year’s virtual event, a successful effort to continue the event safely during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Nassau Barkfest has become an annual Halloween tradition for dog owners across Long Island,” said Nassau County Executive Laura Curran. “For many of us, our pets are members of our family, so I am thrilled to bring back this beloved event in-person. I encourage all residents to come enjoy this light-hearted annual event in beautiful Eisenhower Park.  A special thank you to Nassau SPCA for your continued support.”

As always, Nassau Barkfest will be a free to attend and will be sponsored by the Nassau County SPCA and Long Island’s K98.3.  The parade and costume judging will begin at 2:30p.m. sharp.  The Nassau SPCA asks participants to bring a pet food donation to help families with pets who are facing difficult financial times.

There will be 13 opportunities to win prizes, courtesy of the Nassau SPCA, that range from $50 to $150 in gift cards.

The event will be held rain or shine and all pets must be on a leash.  Rescue groups with puppies and dogs for adoptions as well as animal friendly organizations will be on site to celebrate.
