Even as a powerful coastal storm approached Long Island, local officials and community partners were focused on another priority: making sure families in need had food on their tables.
Town Clerk Janina Martinez, members of the Babylon Town Board, PSEG Long Island and Island Harvest recently joined forces to help stock local food pantry shelves and provide support to Babylon residents facing food insecurity.
Councilman Terence McSweeney said the effort demonstrated the importance of having local government, businesses, and nonprofit organizations work together.
“Even with a storm bearing down on us, it was great to see PSEG Long Island step up and make sure our local food pantry shelves are stocked,” McSweeney said. “When our community needs help, we show up. This is what a strong community partnership looks like — businesses, nonprofits and local government coming together to make a real difference for our neighbors.”
Martinez said partnerships such as the one between the town, PSEG Long Island and Island Harvest are especially important because they directly benefit residents.
“When we come together as a community, we can accomplish so much more,” Martinez said. “We are proud to work alongside PSEG Long Island and Island Harvest to make sure families in our community have access to the resources they need. Helping our neighbors is what community is all about.”
For Babylon officials, the food pantry effort represents more than simply filling shelves. It reflects the role that partnerships between local government, the private sector, and nonprofit organizations can play in addressing the needs of residents.
McSweeney said the Town Board will continue to support organizations that provide essential services to the community.
“We are incredibly grateful to PSEG Long Island and Island Harvest for their continued commitment to the Town of Babylon and our residents,” McSweeney said. “No family should have to worry about where their next meal is coming from. By working together, we can make sure our neighbors know that their community is there for them.”
