Several outstanding science and mathematics scholars from Wyandanch Memorial High School had the amazing opportunity to showcase their knowledge by participating in the Long Island Regional Science Bowl at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The students were selected to participate in the competition based upon their academic performance and competitive skills. Scholars senior Angel Campos, junior Carlos Diaz and sophomores Ashly Polanco and Valeria Romero, under the direction of their adviser Dr. Karl Spielmann, tied during the round-robin portion of the tournament.

The U.S Department of Energy National Science Bowl is a nationwide academic competition that challenges and tests students’ knowledge in all areas of science and mathematics. As part of the district’s more comprehensive E3 Program (Explore, Experience, Excel) developed by Dr. Spielmann, scholars have the opportunity to compete in a number of STEM competitions throughout the year.
