The Ward Melville High School Academic Bowls Club will be heading to Washington, D.C. for the national Science Bowl this April for the second year in a row. The team, made up of captain Michael Melikyan, Anna Xing, Sean Skinner, Rithik Sogal and Harry Gao, qualified after a successful performance at the regional Science Bowl at Brookhaven National Laboratory on Feb. 2.

The Ward Melville High School team had an undefeated string of victories against 30 of the brightest teams from Long Island and New York City at the regional competition. The team consistently scored victories doubling the scores of their closest opponents.

As the team heads to the nation’s capital this spring for the all-expense paid trip, students’ knowledge will be tested in all areas of science and mathematics. The district congratulates Ward Melville High School and wishes the team the best of luck as it advances to the national tournament.
