United Way of Long Island Welcomes 2 New Board of Directors

Monica Miranda, Director of Human Resources at Suffolk Transportation Service, Inc., and Jennefer Maldonado, Senior Applications Analyst at Brookhaven National Laboratory, will serve on the 50-member United Way of Long Island Board of Directors.
Board Chair Lynda Nicolino, Chief Legal Counsel of Bethpage Federal Credit Union, said, ” We are fortunate to have an incredible board who each dedicate their time and talents to our organization and the Long Island region. Monica and Jennefer are deeply committed to United Way’s three pillars of service: education, financial stability, and health, and we are thrilled to welcome them as our newest board members.”

Monica Miranda is the Director of Human Resources at Suffolk Transportation Service, Inc., where she develops strategies to harmonize processes, people, and recruitment for organizational growth. With over 15 years of experience in business strategies, organizational development, and labor relations, she collaborates with executives to create effective solutions. Her innovative approach has accelerated processes and strengthened regulatory compliance. Monica previously worked at Estee Lauder and the USSS. She holds a B.S. in Security Systems from Farmingdale State College and an M.S. in Human Resource Management from Stony Brook University. Monica is a member of Chi Alpha Epsilon, the East Islip School Business Partnership Program, and serves on the board of the Suffolk County Workforce Development Board.
Jennefer Maldonado is a Senior Applications Analyst at Brookhaven National Laboratory’s Collider Accelerator Department, where she develops applications for the controls group and contributes to machine learning projects. With expertise in Python, Java, and C++, Jennefer holds a Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics and Data Science from Adelphi University. She is actively involved in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, serving as the President Elect and Social Media Officer for Brookhaven Women in Science (BWIS) and as a member of the Nuclear and Particle Physics DEI council. Jennefer is dedicated to promoting equal advancement for women in the workplace.
