Students across the Three Village Central School District celebrated Flag Day on June 14. Holly Brainard, a trustee with the Three Village Historical Society, visited Nassakeag Elementary School ahead of the holiday. She taught fifth grade classes the history of the American flag, the United States Flag Code and how to fold the flag. On Flag Day, Nassakeag held an outdoor celebration
Setauket Elementary School held a building wide celebration. Students gathered out front of the school to watch the flag be raised as “Taps” was played by student-musicians in the background. During the posting of the flag, Setauket Elementary School parents who are veterans were honored. Additionally, there were patriotic performances from the fifth and sixth grade advanced band, as well as grade-level presentations of “You’re a Grand Old Flag,” “Yankee Doodle,” “My Country ‘Tis of Thee,” “This Land is Your Land,” and “America the Beautiful.” Additionally, students read the winning poems from a poetry contest to the audience made up of their peers and families.
