Smithtown Elementary School Students Celebrate Flag Day

Smithtown Elementary Principal Janine Lavery spoke from the heart on Wednesday, June 14, as students and staff at Smithtown Elementary celebrated Flag Day.

Fifth grade students led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by “The Star-Spangled Banner.” The students also performed sign language during the Pledge of Allegiance.

Principal Lavery discussed the importance of Flag Day and students’ heritage. Then students sang “My Country Tis of Thee” and “This Land Is Your Land.”

Members of the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts assisted in the celebration.

Principal Lavery concluded the celebration by stating,

“We all need to do our part to help continue to make America such a special place…treat each other with respect and kindness.”
