Sylvan Avenue Elementary School fifth grade students in the Bayport-Blue Point School District reminisced on their favorite parts of summer during an annual writing activity called “So Long, Summer!” Shared with family members in the classroom, the students revealed their writing which focused on the parts of summer they enjoyed most.
Part of the assignment also focused on skills to be learned in a future journalism unit, where they interviewed their guests about activities they can participate in during the fall, such as apple and pumpkin picking.
Summer brought about various favorite activities for students like Samantha R., who said she enjoyed being a flower girl at her aunt’s wedding. In addition to trips to the beach and the pool, Joseph J. wrote that he enjoyed summer BBQs. Graham M. also said he enjoyed baseball camp and going to his grandparents’ beach house on the east end of Long Island.
