Stony Brook School Students Serve The Community

On Saturday, Dec. 5, a group of students at The Stony Brook School spent the afternoon decorating
and stuffing duffel bags to donate to “Together We Rise”—an organization that seeks to improve the
lives of children in foster care. Thirty bags were donated and the event was organized by the
school’s Community Engagement Council, a student-run council committed to finding ways to serve
the community around them.

“Some children go into foster care with nothing to call their own, and the mission of “Together We
Rise” really moved our students into action,” said Lydia O’Brien, the school’s Director of Activities &
Community Engagement.

The council is also currently running a technology drive where community members can donate
lightly used tech items to be repurposed and distributed to those in need.
