Town Officials and employees have joined forces again to give back to the community. This annual tradition of giving back, purchasing wish list items for local families enduring hardship and delivering them to the Smithtown Children’s Foundation, has grown exponentially this year. The Smithtown Senior Citizens department also orchestrated an upside down Christmas Tree, raising approximately $2,000 in gift cards which were then presented to the Smithtown Children’s Foundation on Friday, December 15th. Many Town employees donated items on behalf of their entire family. The Smithtown Administrators Guild donated funds to put toward fulfilling items on the wish list, in addition to purchasing items as individuals.
“Knowing that no child in Smithtown will wake up on Christmas morning without experiencing the magic of this season really warms the heart. The people who are employed by the Town of Smithtown, are some of the finest, most kind-hearted individuals I’ve had the privilege of serving with. They consider service to the public a calling… and witnessing this great offering of compassion really takes my breath away. I have never been so proud to serve with so many admirable individuals. Together, we consider the people of Smithtown family… And we will always look after our family.” – Supervisor Ed Wehrheim
The Smithtown Children’s Foundation works diligently every year to ensure less fortunate children, transient families and those dealing with loss or terminal illness have the support they need year round. The foundation works confidentially with social workers at school and directly with families enduring hardship or loss. The town collaborates with the Smithtown Children’s Foundation to make anonymous donations every year during the holiday season in addition to fulfilling school supply needs for local kids throughout the Township. Since it’s conception in 2008, the Smithtown Children’s Foundation has teamed up with Schools, Sports Teams, Businesses and Similar Foundations to assure children suffering from terminal illness, tragic circumstances or families in need of comfort after a child has left this world too soon, have the support of an entire Community.
