Jen De Carlo and Robyn Grieco’s fifth grade class at Nokomis Elementary School in the Sachem Central School District recently completed a service project to benefit Last Chance Animal Rescue, a local charitable and nonprofit organization created to save the lives of animals.

After a visit from some volunteers from the rescue to learn more about what the organization does, the students ran a pop-up lunch shop where they sold bracelets, keychains and straws. In addition, the class partnered with Philly Pretzel Factory of Ronkonkoma to sell customized pretzels that were in the shape of paws and dog bones.

Students created “Pupstagram” profiles to highlight adoptable dogs.

In order to promote dogs in need of forever homes on social media for the rescue, each student created a “Pupstagram” profile which highlighted the dog’s personality and reasons why they should be adopted.

The project generated a total of $1,800 donated to Last Chance Animal Rescue, who will utilize the funds to save the lives of dogs and cats in need.
