A Call For Designers To Create Warm, Welcoming, And Fun Spaces For Families
Ronald McDonald House Charities New York Metro, in collaboration with Kravet LLC, NYC&G (New York Cottages & Gardens), and HC&G (Hamptons Cottages & Gardens), has announced Stony Brook Project Design, inviting interior designers to create heartfelt and healing environments in the soon-to-be-built Ronald McDonald House at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital.
This initiative mirrors the highly successful Project Design campaign for the New Hyde Park Ronald McDonald House. In 2013–2014, more than 60 designers joined forces to completely refresh 74 interior spaces, including bedrooms, common spaces, media rooms, and dining areas, donating furnishings and décor valued at over $5 million.
Interior designers are invited to lend their expertise and creativity to Stony Brook Project Design. Applications opened in September 2025, with a deadline to apply in October 2025.
“The vision for the Stony Brook Ronald McDonald House goes far beyond a building. It’s about creating a home filled with warmth, compassion, and community,” said Jennifer Nicholson, Chief Operating Officer of RMHC New York Metro. “Through Project Design, we invite designers to craft spaces that will provide comfort and healing for thousands of families for years to come.”
Stony Brook Project Design seeks to emulate that spirit, leveraging creativity to deliver environments that foster comfort, healing, and connectedness for families caring for hospitalized children. Construction of the new Stony Brook Ronald McDonald House is slated to begin this year, with plans to open in 2027. Located at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital—Suffolk County’s only children’s hospital with more than 8,000 pediatric discharges each year—the new Ronald McDonald House answers a growing need for expanded Family Centered Care in the region.
“Design can change lives, and this project would be life-changing,” said Lisa Kravet, Chair of the Stony Brook Building Committee. “Bright, cheerful spaces have the power to uplift families in their darkest hour.”
The new 60,000 sq. ft. Ronald McDonald House in Stony Brook will offer overnight accommodation, comfort, love, and hospitality to families caring for their seriously ill or injured children at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital. It will serve as a sanctuary for families facing some of life’s most difficult challenges.
“We are absolutely thrilled that Stony Brook Project Design will take place in a brand-new, purpose-built Ronald McDonald House at Stony Brook,” said Marianne Howatson, CEO & Publication Director, C&G Media Group. This extraordinary opportunity allows our talented community of designers to shape these spaces from the ground up—with compassion, creativity, and purpose—offering comfort to families during their most challenging times.”
The House will include 30 private bedrooms with ensuite baths, a media center, outdoor playground, interactive playrooms, kitchens serving home-cooked meals nightly, 24/7 laundry facilities, an indoor movie theater, a fitness center, a meditation room, a wellness center, transportation services, and more. Designers are invited to develop mood boards that illustrate their vision. Spaces include 30 private bedrooms, Reception/Lobby, Dining Room, Kitchens, Media Room, Playroom, Wellness Center, Fitness Center, Movie Theater, Meditation Room, Laundry Rooms, Family Lounges, Rooftop Retreat, Volunteer Room, Community Board Room, and more.
“Since 1986, Ronald McDonald House Charities New York Metro has helped tens of thousands of families with sick children find comfort and support when they needed it most,” said Matt Campo, CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities New York Metro. “Many families travel far from home to seek the best care for their children and call Ronald McDonald House their home away from home. For children facing a serious medical crisis, the love of their family is as strong as the best medicine there is.”
