Boy Scouts from several troops in Suffolk County attended the July 21 meeting of the Suffolk County Legislature’s Ways and Means Committee, chaired by Suffolk County Legislator Rob Trotta. The scouts are working on attaining their Citizenship in the Community Society Merit Badge, which is a requirement for those scouts who want to earn the rank of Eagle Scout. In order to receive this badge, scouts must meet with an elected official to learn what he or she does, address current issues with them and discuss how citizens can get more involved in their community.
“Members of the Ways & Means Committee were pleased to have the Boy Scouts attend the meeting and we hope they found it interesting. I commend their scout leaders for organizing this event, and think it is very important for our youth to understand the government process, as well as to get involved in current issues at a young age,” said Suffolk County Legislator Rob Trotta.
