Students at Lynwood Avenue Elementary School have learned about community service through several project-based learning activities. On May 16, students displayed their final projects during a Project-Based Learning Showcase. The student-center approach allows students to learn about a subject through the experience of solving an open-ended problem. Each project enhances skills in creativity, critical thinking and collaboration.

Most recently, third graders shared their final project with their families. Through their project, they followed the driving question, “How can we, as leaders, promote awareness of the importance/impact of empathy through participation in donations and card making for Ronald McDonald House families?” Through research and planning different fundraisers, the third graders raised $2,559 for Ronald McDonald House Charities, as well as collected dozens of items the organization needs.
