Students from Edna Louise Spear Elementary School experienced Earth Day in a different way this year, when they were encouraged to create musical instruments out of recycled materials. Music teacher Lisa Scrom asked the third, fourth and fifth graders to create an instrument from one of the four instrument families – percussion, woodwind, string or brass – from materials that they could find in their homes.
“Many students sent photos and videos of their instruments and it is a great way to celebrate taking care of the earth and reusing materials,” said Scrom.
