Pink Party Raises Over $8,000 for Cancer Support and Awareness

On Thursday, May 15, the community turned out in force at Montana Brothers in Freeport for the Pink Party, a vibrant and heartfelt event that raised $8,037 in support of the 1 in 9 / Hewlett House Foundation. The event took on even greater significance as it was held during Women’s Health Awareness Month, a time dedicated to promoting the well-being of women and spotlighting critical health issues like breast cancer.

Organized by Emma Pilato, a senior at Mepham High School and an intern in Senator Steve Rhoads’ office, the evening was the culmination of her vision and commitment. Emma, who will attend High Point University this fall, described the fundraiser as a defining moment in her personal and civic journey.

“This was more than just a fundraiser—it was a dream come to life,” said Emma Pilato, the event’s chairperson. “Seeing hundreds of people, including so many breast cancer survivors, come together in support of Hewlett House was overwhelming in the best way. I’ll carry this experience with me forever.”

Geri Barish, founder of the 1 in 9 Foundation, shared: “Emma’s passion was the heart of this event. She and Senator Rhoads have shown they don’t just talk about supporting women’s health—they live it. Emma devoted her time and energy to creating this event from the ground up, and Senator Rhoads has consistently prioritized funding, championed legislation, and elevated visibility for women’s health initiatives. Their meaningful actions show a deep commitment, and we’re incredibly grateful for their partnership. They inspired us all—young and old—to take action. The funds raised will directly help cancer patients and their families right here on Long Island.”

Senator Steve Rhoads said: “I couldn’t be prouder of Emma. She’s a shining example of leadership, compassion, and what the next generation is capable of. Hosting this event during Women’s Health Awareness Month made the impact even more powerful. It was a moving reminder of how communities can come together to support lifesaving causes.”

The 1 in 9 / Hewlett House Foundation has been providing free support, education, and a sense of community to cancer patients and their families for over two decades. The funds raised will go directly toward continuing this vital mission.
