Oakdale-Bohemia Middle School Visits The Opera

Students from Oakdale-Bohemia Middle School’s select choir, jazz ensemble and chamber ensemble in the Connetquot Central School District had the unique opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look of the Metropolitan Opera by attending the final dress rehearsal of “The Magic Flute.”

Oakdale-Bohemia Middle School students watched the final dress rehearsal of the “The Magic Flute” at the Metropolitan Opera.

Through the Metropolitan Opera’s Access Opera Program, Oakdale-Bohemia Middle School chorus teacher Ms. Rachel White has been bringing her students to performances at the venue for about seven years. On this trip, students even got to meet famous tenor Rolando Villazon and get his autograph.

“The opera is not a place most students would get to experience on their own,” said Ms. White. “I’m so grateful that the Metropolitan Opera provides these opportunities, and that we are able to introduce young people to this exciting art form.”
