The Newfield High School Drum Club, advised by Mr. Tom Austin and Dr. Harold Goldstein, recently had the unique opportunity to perform in the lobby of the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts at the Eastern Suffolk Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) PEACE Summer Institute.
The Drum Club performed during the professional development portion of the Patchogue Arts Council’s Partners in Education, Arts, and Community Empowerment (PEACE) project. The PEACE project is funded through a grant award from the U.S Department of Education’s Assistance for Arts Education (AAE) program. AAE’s mission is to shape a diverse, inclusive, and equitable art education community.
After the energetic performance by the Drum Club, Ms. Loretta Corbisiero-Drakos, Administrative Coordinator for Eastern Suffolk BOCES Arts-in-Education Educational Support Services, presented Newfield High School Drum Club students with certificates and thanked them for “paving the way” as their first-ever PEACE Ambassadors.
