The stakes were high. The pressure was on. The parents were nervous.
But Mt. Pleasant fifth grader Stuti Prabhu was unwavering in her focus and determination and on Feb. 1 won the Mt. Pleasant Elementary School spelling bee championship.
Nineteen finalists from grades 3, 4 and 5 had advanced to this week’s spelling bee finale. The winning word was “breakneck” which is an adjective meaning dangerously or extremely fast. Stuti now advances to the online written test and then potentially the Long Island Regional Championship.
The spelling bee was hosted by fourth grade teacher Mr. Steve Jackowski and supervised by Principal Joseph Ierano.
