Maria Kaufman, a Long Island McDonald’s Owner/Operator, gathered with local school crossing guards and McDonald’s crew members to celebrate Long Island Crossing Guard Appreciation Week. As part of the February 23–27 initiative, crossing guards throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties were invited to stop by participating McDonald’s restaurants for a complimentary medium coffee in recognition of their service and dedication to student safety.
The event brought together community members for a moment of connection and gratitude, highlighting the essential role crossing guards play each day. Often the first friendly face students see in the morning and the last one ensuring they get home safely, crossing guards work in all weather conditions to protect children during some of the busiest times of the day.
“Crossing guards are true everyday heroes in our community,” said Kaufman. “They are out there in the rain, snow, and cold, making sure our children get to and from school safely. As a locally owned and operated business, we live and work in this community, and it means a great deal to us at McDonald’s to recognize the neighbors who help keep Long Island families safe.”
McDonald’s crew members joined in welcoming the crossing guards, sharing coffee and conversation in a warm show of appreciation. The initiative reflects McDonald’s ongoing commitment to supporting the communities it serves and celebrating the individuals who help make Long Island’s neighborhoods safer and stronger.
