East Islip High School’s Long Island champion football team was officially recognized at a Dec. 21 ceremony in the school’s forum. A representative from Suffolk County Legislator Trish Bergin’s office was on hand to present coach Sal Ciampi Jr. and his team with a proclamation commemorating their achievement.
“Congratulations to our varsity football team on such a successful season,” Athletic Director Steve Restivo said. “You guys worked very hard both on and off the field, and it did not go unnoticed.”
“With the amount of talent and kind of kids we have, it’s not surprising that we were able to get there, but it was a bumpy road at times,” Ciampi said. “It shows the true character of the team and everyone involved in the program that despite setbacks and adversity from time to time, we were still able to achieve the goal we had hoped to achieve and end up being the Long Island champions.”
