One of the ways to meaningfully celebrate a student’s hard work throughout a writing unit is with a publishing party. Just before the holiday break, first and second grade students at Fire Island School District’s Woodhull School partnered with third and fourth graders to share their recently published writing.

Woodhull School fourth grade student Marco Bessler offered feedback to first grader Ace Adams during the publishing party.

At the publishing party, the older and younger students were paired up to share their nonfiction works with one another. Staff members also were included. During the sharing process, the students wrote down notes about what they learned from each other’s writing. At the close o of the celebration, they shared one thing they learned from their author-peers.
