At the Nov. 2 meeting of the Lindenhurst Union Free School District Board of Education, Bret Kearney was appointed as the districts’ new assistant superintendent for human resources and personnel.
Mr. Kearney held the position of assistant superintendent for special education and pupil personnel services at Lindenhurst Union Free School District since July 2016. In this position Mr. Kearney was responsible for the coordination, hiring, evaluating and tenuring of all special education and pupil personnel services employees, including administrators, teachers, nurses and related service providers. Additionally, he served as the CSE chairperson, assessed and adjusted district staffing needs for pupil personnel services and special education, created and implemented the special education budget and coordinated professional development for staff.
Prior to his time as the assistant superintendent for special education and pupil personnel services Mr. Kearney served as the assistant principal of Lindenhurst High School for two years. He also served as a special education integrated co-teacher at Lindenhurst Middle School for one year and was a social studies teacher at Lindenhurst High School from 2004 to 2013.
“Over the past 19 years I’ve been afforded many rewarding opportunities in the Lindenhurst school district and have been fortunate to work with great people,” Mr. Kearney said. “I’m very excited for my new role as the assistant superintendent for human resources and personnel and thankful for the opportunity to continue to serve the Lindenhurst community.”
Mr. Kearney holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Nazareth College of Rochester, a Master of Arts degree in liberal studies from Stony Brook University and is completing a Master of Science degree in educational psychology at The College of Saint Rose. He also holds a professional certificate in educational leadership, a school building leader professional certificate, a school district leader professional certificate, a students with disabilities 7-12 professional certificate and a social studies 7-12 professional certificate.
