Nassau County Legislator Seth I. Koslow (D – Merrick) partnered with the Nassau County Department of Assessment to bring the Homeowner Exemption Liaison Program (HELP) to the North Bellmore Public Library on Wednesday, July 31 delivering personalized service to more than 40 homeowners seeking assistance with their tax exemptions.
Department of Assessment staff provided one-on-one assistance with filing for veteran, senior citizen, Cold War veteran, volunteer firefighter and ambulance worker, and limited-income disability exemptions. Enhanced STAR applications were also processed for homeowners already enrolled in the STAR program prior to Jan. 2, 2015.
Legislator Koslow and the Department of Assessment previously hosted a HELP workshop in Merrick on June 6, and will be bringing the program to the Freeport Memorial Library on Tuesday, Aug. 20.
“It was great to see so many property owners from the North Bellmore area taking advantage of this opportunity to put money back into their pockets and ensuring that they are receiving every tax exemption they’ve rightly earned,” Legislator Koslow said. “If you have not yet been to an event and still have questions, I encourage you to join us in Freeport later this month for my office’s third and final seminar of the season. Thank you to John McQuade and everyone at the Department of Assessment for their professionalism and assistance with this vital program.”
All HELP sessions are from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. Participants are asked to arrive no later than one half-hour prior to the scheduled end time for the event and are encouraged to make copies of their 2023 federal and state tax income returns, along with required documentation listed on the exemption application, prior to attending the program.
