Jennifer Washington was recently appointed by the Harborfields Central School District as principal of Thomas J. Lahey Elementary School.
Washington has been a vital Harborfields educator for 17 years, serving the last two as the director of technology and security systems. She started at Harborfields as a teaching assistant at Oldfield Middle School; transitioned to an integrated teacher at TJL, where she spent 11 years working as a special education teacher; and served as the supervisor for the extended school year program and as the district’s technology coordinator. In 2017 and 2019, she was chosen as a presenter at the Long Island Technology Education Summit, a yearly event for sharing new ideas, innovations and trends, and her work on Books Clubs for the 21st Century won the Model Schools Award in 2018.
A Greenlawn resident, Washington earned her bachelor’s degree in television/radio with a concentration in advertising/public relations from Ithaca College, a master’s degree in special education from Dowling College and her building leader and district level certifications from Stony Brook University.
“I’m committed to providing an environment where all students feel valued and inspired,” Washington said.
