The James Wilson Young Middle School Science Olympiad team made district history during the New York State Division B (grades 6-9) competition, held at East Syracuse-Minoa High School on April 14-15. For the first time, the team took home state medals. Additionally, it was only the second time the Division B team qualified for the state competition. The team, consisting of 15 students and one alternate, acquired a 23rd place standing out of 40 teams and earned four state medals.
“The level of dedication, passion, and competitiveness of this very young group, half of which are sixth graders, was inspiring,” adviser Ms. Peterson said. “They were motivated to be successful, and they achieved that goal. I very much look forward to seeing this group’s future success as they move through the Science Olympiad program here at Bayport-Blue Point.”
