From August 23 through August 29, New York State Senator Steve Rhoads hosted a Hygiene Supply Drive benefiting Hope For Youth, bringing residents, local libraries, and community organizations together to support children, youth, and families across Long Island.
The weeklong drive was a tremendous success, collecting more than 1,300 hygiene items for Hope For Youth. Donations included toothbrushes for adults and children, toothpaste, dental floss, alcohol-free mouthwash, bar soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, hand sanitizer, hand soap, body wipes, pads, and tampons.
Community members were able to drop off donations at North Bellmore Public Library, Plainview-Old Bethpage Public Library, Merrick Library, St. Barnabas Roman Catholic Church in Bellmore, and Hicksville Public Library. The participation of these local institutions helped make the drive accessible to residents throughout the 5th Senate District.
“The generosity shown by our community was remarkable,” said Senator Steve Rhoads. “More than 1,300 essential hygiene items will now go directly to Hope For Youth to help children and families who need them. I am grateful to every resident who donated and to each of our collection locations for helping make this drive such a success.”
For more than 50 years, Hope For Youth has served children, youth, and families across Long Island. The donated hygiene supplies will help provide everyday essentials that promote comfort, dignity, and well-being for the individuals and families the organization serves.
Senator Rhoads thanked the North Bellmore Public Library, Plainview-Old Bethpage Public Library, Merrick Library, St. Barnabas Roman Catholic Church, and Hicksville Public Library for hosting collection bins, as well as the residents who generously donated throughout the week.
Senator Rhoads also recognized his intern, Jacob Franzetti, for his outstanding leadership in spearheading the hygiene supply drive. Jacob took the initiative to organize and coordinate the effort from the ground up, helping bring local libraries, community organizations, and residents together for a common cause. His dedication, initiative, and commitment to giving back played an important role in making the drive a success.
The successful drive is a testament to the strong community spirit of the 5th Senate District and the willingness of residents and local organizations to come together to support Long Island families in need.
