Healthgrades Ranks 3 Northwell Health Hospitals Among Best In Country

Three Northwell Health hospitals were named among the best in the country by Healthgrades, the leading resource consumers use to find a hospital or doctor. Multiple other Northwell hospitals were also ranked among the best in New York in various specialties by Healthgrades.

Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan was named one of the 50 best hospitals in the country. Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco and Mather Hospital in Port Jefferson were each named among the 250 best hospitals nationally.

“These latest rankings from Healthgrades prove that Northwell facilities remain among the best places to get healthcare in New York,” said Michael Dowling, president and CEO of Northwell Health. “I’m honored to receive these rankings, and incredibly proud of our incredible staff that makes them possible.”

Many Northwell hospitals were also recognized for outstanding care in specialties, with 11 different programs being named among the top 5 in New York. North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset was ranked No. 1 in the state for cardiac surgery, while also achieving the America’s 50 hospitals for cardiac surgery Award™ for eight years in a row (2017-2024).

Lenox Hill was No. 4 in cardiac care, while also receiving the America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Care Award™ for 11 consecutive years (2014-2024) – the only hospital in New York to do so. South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore was ranked No. 4 in the state for cardiac surgery and fifth for pulmonary care. It has been one of America’s 50 best hospitals for cardiac surgery for seven consecutive years (2018-2024) and also earned the 2024 Pulmonary Care Excellence Award.

Northern Westchester ranked No. 2 in the state for critical care, No. 5 for stroke care and fifth for neurosciences. It earned the 2024 Critical Care Excellence Award™.

“Northwell hospitals are committed to providing the highest quality care to our patients, and these latest Healthgrades awards are further proof of this,” said Peter Silver, MD, senior vice president, chief quality officer and associate chief medical officer for Northwell. “From Long Island to Manhattan to Westchester, New Yorkers know they can count on Northwell Health for the best health care.”

Healthgrades evaluates hospitals solely on patient outcomes to determine the top-performing hospitals for specialty care in each of the 32 states assessed. Healthgrades’ 2024 analysis revealed that patients who seek care at a hospital with rankings in their condition or procedure have a better chance of a good outcome than if they are treated at a facility that is not rated. This widening performance gap highlights the importance of selecting a top-rated program.

“Healthgrades is proud to recognize numerous Northwell facilities as the among the top 5 in New York across multiple specialties,” said Brad Bowman, MD, chief medical officer and head of data science at Healthgrades. “Hospitals with top 5 ranking in their state deliver consistently superior outcomes for the patients in their community. Consumers should feel confident knowing that they have access to top-ranked care for across the Northwell Health System.”
