Hats Off! Saladino Honors Massapequa Boy For Hat Collection Initiative To Benefit Children With Hair Loss

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and his colleagues on the Town Board recently honored Anthony D’Alessandro, of Massapequa, who along with his mother Allison, founded an initiative known as “Operation Hat Drop” following Anthony’s diagnosis with alopecia at the age of 5. Operation Hat Drop has accumulated more than 1,200 hats to date, and is partnering with the organization Children with Hair Loss (CWHL) to donate hats and wigs to children suffering from hair loss due to cancer, alopecia, and other causes.

“Anthony is a brave young boy, who in the face of incredible adversity, decided to make a positive difference in the lives of other children who also suffer from hair loss, in addition to spreading awareness and social acceptance about this condition,” said Supervisor Saladino. “It is clear he is his mother’s son as Allison has shown great strength not just through Anthony’s alopecia diagnosis, but also her youngest son Jon’s diagnosis with a rare congenital heart defect, choosing to spread kindness and give back to others in need.”

Anthony has been given hats by many law enforcement and first responder agencies, as well as local small businesses, family, friends and individuals from all across the country. Anyone interested in sending Anthony a *NEW* hat and help be the reason he, or another child who suffers from hair loss smiles, please visit Operation.Hat.Drop on Instagram.
