Fundraising Concert For Law Enforcement

Supervisor Don Clavin and Councilman Anthony D’Esposito joined with a widow and a sister of fallen police officers, and NYPD Officer Austin Glickman, President and Founder of Law Enforcement Officers Weekend (LEO Weekend), to announce a January 15th fundraiser at Mulcahy’s Pub & Concert Hall in Wantagh to support law enforcement families. The fundraiser, hosted by Councilman D’Esposito – a retired NYPD Detective – helps provide opportunities for weekend getaways for members of law enforcement and their families affected by a line of duty death or serious injury. What’s more, All Island Transportation is providing free cab rides home for law enforcement personnel who attend the event.

Also attending were Senior Councilwoman Dorothy Goosby, Councilman Dennis Dunne, Sr., Councilman Tom Muscarella, Councilman Chris Carini, Town Clerk Kate Murray and Receiver of Taxes Jeanine Driscoll.

“The Town of Hempstead is proud to support Law Enforcement Officers Weekend and its efforts to assist law enforcement families affected by serious injury or line of duty death,” stated Supervisor Clavin. “We are indebted to our dedicated first responders, and it is important to remember their sacrifices as well those of the families, and the positive impact they have on the Town of Hempstead community.”

“It is an honor to host Law Enforcement Officers Weekend’s Holiday Show, a fundraiser that supports law enforcement families by providing events and activities for law enforcement families here in the Town of Hempstead and across the nation,” added Councilman D’Esposito. “As a former detective in the NYPD, I know the many hardships faced by law enforcement families, and I encourage Town of Hempstead residents to attend this event in appreciation for everything that our men and women in uniform do to keep our communities safe.”

The fundraiser is being held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, January 15th at Mulcahy’s Pub & Concert Hall, located at 3232 Railroad Avenue, Wantagh. The event will feature a live auction, great prizes, food and drinks, and live music from Shilelagh Law. Proceeds from the fundraiser will support hosting law enforcement families at LEO’s Fourth Annual Lake George Weekend from June 16-19, Third Annual Long Beach Weekend from July 28-31 and Second Annual Miami Weekend from October 6-10.

“Nearly 500 law enforcement offices died in the line of duty in 2021 with hundreds more seriously injured,” said Glickman. “Although we can only help so few, this fundraiser will assure us the ability to put smiles on the faces of families who have faced the most unthinkable tragedies. I’d like to thank Supervisor Clavin and Councilman D’Esposito for their continued support and commitment to our organization and to the law enforcement community.”

In addition, the Second Annual Volley for Heroes Tournament will be held this summer at Point Lookout Town Park and will once again feature co-ed recreational and competitive tournaments and will be open to the public.

“All Island Transportation is proud to work with LEO Weekend and Hempstead Town in providing safe, reliable rides home for those supporting this important event,” said All Island Transportation Vice President Lawrence Blessinger, Jr.

Since LEO’s inception, the organization has helped 42 families from 14 different states and from 22 different law enforcement organizations. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Glickman created “LEO’s Feeding LEO’s” and linked with local restaurants to help donate and distribute meals, feeding 32 different law enforcement agencies and over 4,000 police officers throughout the Northeast.

“I am grateful for LEO Weekend’s efforts to remember our dedicated first responders for everything they do, as well as their efforts to provide for our first responder’s families. Additionally, I personally want to thank President Austin Glickman for his extraordinary efforts in leading this tremendous organization,” remarked Clavin.

“I will never forget where I came from, and I will always stand with my brothers and sisters in blue to support them and their families. Please join me on Saturday, January 15th to support this Law Enforcement Officers Weekend,” concluded
D’Esposito.
