The fifth graders at Great Neck Road Elementary School in the Copiague School District celebrated Women’s History Month in March by conducting research on famous female figures in history. The students researched Oprah Winfrey, Diana Ross, Mother Teresa, Wilma Rudolph, Jane Goodall, Michelle Obama, Serena Williams, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston and more. The students collaborated in small groups to make a poster of one influential figure in black history including famous facts, family history and struggles they may have encountered. After the classes completed the posters, they were hung in the hallway where fifth graders walked through to learn about the different women.
