October was “InkTober” at East Islip’s Timber Point Elementary School, with students working weekly on drawings in the school’s art studio, in their classrooms and at home.

The InkTober project started on social media a little over 10 years ago, with the goal of encouraging people to draw every day. Artists make drawings in response to a one-word prompt using only ink, such as markers, liquid ink, sharpies or pens.

October was “InkTober” at East Islip’s Timber Point Elementary School, with students working weekly on drawings in the school’s art studio, in their classrooms and at home.

In the Timber Point art community’s weekly version, teacher Amanda Lastella invited all students and staff to submit their own InkTober drawings. Once per week, she posted a one-word prompt, “Dream” or “Map” for example, and anyone who wished could submit a drawing for the prompt. The artwork was then displayed in the library hallway.
