The ALS Ride for Life visited East Islip Middle School on May 10, met by cheering students with banners showing support. At this annual event, ALS patients ride power wheelchairs on local roads and highways to raise awareness and funding for research in finding a cure for ALS. The school’s National Junior Honor Society had held a Ride for Life fundraiser from March through April, raising a total of $1,850. NJHS members sold raffle tickets inside and outside school, and also collected donations online by teachers, staff members, parents and fellow community members.

“The NJHS members were so excited to be able to continue this tradition at our school,” NJHS adviser Betty Muller said. “We also feel so honored and grateful for the support of our family, friends and community for helping us reach our goal and fundraise toward a good cause. These families need our help. I feel certain that together as a community, we will one day find a cure to end this disease and save more lives in the future.”
