Demolition Of Southern State Parkway Former Tourism Building To Begin Thursday

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation in partnership with the New York State Department of Transportation announced today that the demolition of the former tourism and brochure distribution building on the Southern State Parkway, will be begin on Thursday, May 2nd. The exact location is between exits 13 and 14 eastbound.

This building has been unoccupied for several years and is deteriorating. The project will take two days to complete, Thursday, May 2nd and Friday, May 3rd and work will begin at 8:30 AM each day. Cleanup will take place immediately following the demolition. During this time the ramp to the site will remain closed however there will be no negative impact to traffic.

The site will be restored to a natural landscape.

A survey of the building indicated a minimal amount of hazardous material (asbestos). It was removed two weeks ago and disposed of appropriately.
