Deer Park High School students in two classes – Joe Alo’s Long Island History and Kevin Richards’ Natural History of Long Island – recently took a joint field trip. At the Walt Whitman Birthplace State Historic Site in Huntington Station, the students toured the house and wrote poems.

They then visited West Hills County Park, hiking three miles to the top of Jayne’s Hill, the highest point on Long Island and over 387 feet above sea level.
